Scalloped Potatoes Recipe


  • 4 cups thinly sliced potatoes
  • 3 Tbsp butter
  • 3 Tbsp flour
  • 1 ½ cups milk
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 dash cayenne pepper (optional)
  • 1 cup grated sharp cheddar cheese
  • ½ cup grated cheese
  • Dash of paprika


  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. In a small saucepan, melt butter. Blend in flour. Let sit for 1 minute.
  3. Add the cold milk, stirring with a whisk.
  4. Season with the salt and cayenne pepper.
  5. Cook the sauce on low heat, until smooth and boiling, stirring occasionally with a whisk.
  6. Reduce heat and stir in the cheddar cheese.
  7. Place half of the sliced potatoes in a lightly greased 1 quart casserole dish.
  8. Pour half of the cheese sauce over the potatoes.
  9. Place in the remaining potatoes and pour in the remaining sauce.
  10. Sprinkle the grated cheese and paprika on top.
  11. Bake uncovered for one hour.
